Maritime Safety Information (MSI)

Maritime safety information (MSI) are in fact navigational and meteorological warnings and notices concerning navigation safety which are transmitted from coast stations to the vessels.

There are seven basic categories of MSI:

Navigational Warnings;

Meteorological Warnings;

Ice Reports;

Search and Rescue information;

Meteorological forecasts;

Pilot service messages;

Electronic navigational systems update messages.

MSI belong to G.M.D.S.S system and are received, in conventional communications, by NAVTEX receivers, whereas in satellite communications by Enhanced Group Call (E.G.C) receivers that are either incorporated in the Inmarsat system or are autonomy.
